SHOWCASE: “Repeat” Film Projects | FilmingLife® ArtHouse

“Knowledge is of no use unless you put it into practice.
- Anton Chekov

For the final ArtHouse Film Project theme for 2022 we decided to live by those words above and challenge our members to revisit and repeat one of the previous ArtHouse themes. The themes we choose for the ArtHouse are designed to give our members extra skills, tools & techniques that they can take away & incorporate into their films going forward, whether they be personal films or client work.

This was also a great chance for members who may not have participated in a theme the first time round to give it a go and get a new skill under their belt. We extended the working period for this theme to include January and give members time to really get stuck into their work and not feel rushed through the busy holiday period.

This was also a useful extension for those members who decided to work on our first ever Level 3 challenge to incorporate more than just one past theme into their film. The levels for this theme were as follows -

For Level One REPEAT films we asked our members to choose any ArtHouse theme they didn't create a film for the first time round and make something that fits the theme's levels (can be L1 or L2).

For Level Two REPEAT films we asked members to create a Level 2 film for a theme that they made a Level 1 film for last time.

For Level Three REPEAT films we asked members to combine two or more ArtHouse themes in one film (bonus points if they used the LEVEL 2 challenge from both) for eg. Use Level 2 from the SOUND theme and Level 2 from the TRANSITIONS theme in their film.

As always the films that were submitted & created by our members were just amazing, and we’re so pleased to present them to you today…

The Educator’s Choice Award has been chosen by the Lead Educator of the film project REPEAT, Kylie Purtell, as those that fully embody the spirit of the FilmingLife® ArtHouse, and are noted for their storytelling, creativity and unique interpretation of the theme.

Sarah MacClary

What Kylie said about Sarah’s film -

”The themes Sarah chose to incorporate into her film were Avant Garde, Self-Portrait & Vertical and I was just really blown away by how well Sarah fit the brief for all 3 themes. I loved not just the creativity Sarah showed in her story and song choice, but the unique perspectives and camera angles she was also able to incorporate. It really is the absolute embodiment of an ArtHouse film and a true testament to Sarah’s commitment to honing her filmmaking craft.
