SHOWCASE: “Sound” | FilmingLife® ArtHouse

Sound Design is…"seeing with your ears"

The final ArtHouse Film Project theme for 2021 was led by Allison Redmon during November/December and was centered around the theme SOUND.

Allison challenged our members to create short films with sound design as a focus, layering a combination of ambient sounds, foley, and even purchased sound effects to build the soundscapes of their films.

The theme was broken down into two levels:

Level One: Create a film that includes sound effects.

Level Two: Create a film with ONLY sound effects and/or dialogue.

To say that we were excited about this unique theme would be an understatement! Each submission so very different from the next, each incorporating the unique sounds of life, like another character in each film!

We’re so excited to present this showcase for you today…

The Educator’s Choice Awards have been chosen by the Lead Educator of the film project SOUND DESIGN, Allison Redmon, as those that fully embody the spirit of the FilmingLife® ArtHouse, and are noted for their storytelling, creativity and unique interpretation of the theme.

Ashley Lewis

What Allison said about Ashley’s film -

We love this holiday film created by Ashely Lewis, not only does this film creatively layer the sounds and memories of a holiday, it's cheeky and full of humor and vibrance. Take a peek, it promises to put a festive smile on your face!

Lindsey DeCicco

What Allison said about Lindsey’s film -

This film is the epitome of a Level 2 film and it's a must watch. Lindsey brilliantly builds her soundscape without using any background music, instead starting with minimal layers of sound then beginning to build more and more layers of sound/noise/effects in, fleshing out the effects so that they become a character in this story of motherhood. Genius editing and storytelling Lindsey, we love this so much!

Stephanie Woodward

Stephanie Woodward Photo & Film

What Allison said about Stephanie’s film -

We love this fresh look at Stephanie's birthday as filmed from her own eyes, throughout the entire day of her birthday. The way she includes herself in almost every shot as we see her day unfold, it's real and beautiful and when her kids begin singing 'Happy Birthday' a tear came to our eyes!
