SHOWCASE: “Stop Motion” Film Projects | FilmingLife® ArtHouse

ArtHouse Showcase - Stop Motion

The March/April theme for our ArtHouse Film Project was led by FilmingLifer PRO Beth Flick  and was all about STOP MOTION.

Stop motion is an animated filmmaking technique in which objects are physically manipulated in small increments between individually photographed frames so that they will appear to exhibit independent motion or change when the series of frames is played back.

Beth challenged our members to have fun creating a short stop motion film, or incorporating the technique into a longer film and the results were so much fun. A lot of members decided to include their kids in the creative process and by all accounts everyone enjoyed this collaborative theme.

The two levels for the theme were -

Level 1:  Create a 15-30 second "traditional" stop motion video. This film will only have one "scene".

Level 2: Artfully use Stop Motion in a film that is at least90 seconds. Have your film tell a story with more than one "scene" with people included.

As always the films that were created & submitted were just amazing, and we're so pleased to present them to you today...

ArtHouse Showcase - Educators Choice Award

The Educator’s Choice Award is chosen by the Lead Educator of the film project as those that fully embody the spirit of the FilmingLife® ArtHouse, and are noted for their storytelling, creativity and unique interpretation of the theme.

Lindsey DeCicco

What Beth said about Lindsey's film -
”Lindsey’s film stood out to me in this arthouse theme because she used stop motion in a creative and useful way. She not only learned how to create a stop motion, but she used it in a very natural way that was incorporated into a little film of some time with her son. I love that she had audio with her son talking throughout the film, that helped me to feel engaged in the story. Lindsey used this new stop motion skill in a way that each of us family film makers can use in our own work on a regular basis, that is an invaluable skill to add to our toolbox. I hope other filmmakers can be inspired by this film as it makes stop motion an attainable technique to use.”

The FilmingLife® ArtHouse is a series of bi-monthly Educator & FilmingLifer member-led film projects + showcase opportunities for FilmingLife® Members.

Lead Educator Kylie Purtell & handpicked FilmingLifers have chosen 6 themes for the year. Some themes are specific to a technique and others are more broad to give our members the freedom to interpret them as they like.

For each theme, we provide tips, tutorials, and inspiration to encourage and support Members as they work on their film projects.
